Game Designer (Charter)

Part-time contract role tasked with designing levels (charts) for the rhythm game "Arcaea", and working with level design (charting) team leads in peer reviews.


Piece-based compensation. Contractual rate to be discussed/determined on joining.

  • Conversational language ability in written English, especially relating to rhythm game terminology
  • A keen interest in rhythm games and media in Japan as well as an understanding of the Game Market
Description of role

You will be tasked with designing charts for Arcaea, creating compelling physical gameplay experiences for each of the game's difficulty levels (from low difficulty to high).
You will work closely with Arcaea's chart design team, and will be engaged in in-depth review processes for each chart.
You will work with in-house chart design tools, and will frequently communicate asynchronously between team members spread across the globe.

Favorable skills
  • Professional experience charting for commercial rhythm games
  • Experience charting for a wide variety of rhythm games with different control schemes
  • Experience charting low-difficulty charts for rhythm games
  • Native/Bilingual English and Japanese ability
  • Firm understanding of musical terminology, basic music theory or song composition and arrangement
  • Relatively high skill in multiple rhythm games, including Arcaea
